GLCH Sync

A browser extension that syncs play/pause/seek on any site's own video to a Chauvet room — for shows and movies on sites Chauvet has no built-in player for at all. It never downloads, embeds, or copies that site's content; it only keeps everyone's own separately-loaded copy of the page in sync, the same way w2g.tv's own extension does it.

Download GLCH Sync (.zip)
Free. Not on the Chrome/Firefox add-on stores — you install it directly, following the steps below.

Firefox recommended

The download already contains the Firefox version as its default manifest.json.

Quick way — free, works immediately, but Firefox removes it every time Firefox restarts:

  1. Unzip the download somewhere.
  2. Go to about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox
  3. Load Temporary Add-on… → pick the manifest.json file inside the unzipped folder.

Permanent way — still free, survives restarts, needs a one-time Firefox account:

  1. Re-zip the unzipped folder's contents (not the folder itself).
  2. Go to addons.mozilla.org/developers → sign in (or create a free account) → Submit a New Add-on → choose "On this site" (listed — publicly findable on Mozilla's add-on site, which also means it updates itself automatically forever with zero extra work).
  3. You'll be asked for a name, summary, description, and a category. Suggested text — paste-ready:
    • Name: GLCH Sync
    • Summary: Syncs play/pause/seek on any site's video to a private Chauvet watch-together room.
    • Description: Lets everyone in a Chauvet room (globalchalet.ca/chauvet) stay in sync while watching a video on a site Chauvet can't embed directly. Requires a Chauvet room to actually do anything — it won't do much without one.
    • Category: Search & Navigation, or Other/Miscellaneous.
  4. It'll also ask about data collection — the extension already declares this honestly in its manifest (it has to, so this should just confirm what's already there): it sends the page URL you're syncing to globalchalet.ca so playback can stay in sync, and — only if you add a pairing code — your real GLCH username. Nothing else, nothing sold or shared elsewhere. If it asks for a separate privacy-policy write-up, that same sentence works.
  5. Upload the zip. Mozilla signs it automatically, usually within a couple of minutes (occasionally longer if it wants a closer look at what the extension can access) — then it's live and installable straight from Mozilla's own site.

This isn't a one-time thing: once it's listed this way, Firefox automatically checks for newer versions of the same add-on and updates it on its own — for everyone who installed it, not just you. A future update just means resubmitting a new zip here; nobody has to manually reinstall anything.

Chrome also works

  1. Unzip the download.
  2. Copy manifest.chrome.json over manifest.json in that folder.
  3. chrome://extensions → turn on Developer mode → Load unpacked → pick the folder.

Chrome doesn't require signing for a developer-mode extension, so this one persists across restarts as-is.

Using it

You never have to visit this site first — click the GLCH Sync icon and everything below happens straight from the popup, including creating a room.

  1. Click the GLCH Sync icon → type a room id, or hit New to generate one and share it with whoever else is watching.
  2. To watch something Chauvet can't embed: open that show/episode page in a tab, click the icon again, and Sync this tab.
  3. To play or queue something else: paste a link or search YouTube right in the popup — same preview/search as this site's own search bar, with Play Now / Add to Queue.
  4. Play/pause/seek on a synced tab like normal — anyone else with the extension connected to the same room, on their own copy of that page, stays in sync.

Open in window pops the popup out into its own persistent window, if you'd rather it not disappear the moment it loses focus.

Optional: get a pairing code (real sign-in required) and paste it into the extension's popup, so your synced actions show your real name instead of an anonymous "Guest." Never required — syncing works with no code at all.

Before you try it

This grabs the biggest visible video on the page — no per-site smarts yet. An ad-heavy layout or an unusual player may need a fix once you actually hit one; that's expected, not a sign it's broken. Tell whoever's maintaining Chauvet which site and what went wrong, and it can be fixed for that specific case.
